Liquid Investigations is developed as Free Software under the MIT Licence.
Liquid Investigations is a bundle of applications, hosted together on a cluster, with a common authentication layer, assuming a working knowledge of the Unix shell, Git, Docker and the HashiStack. Detailed information about the architecture of Liquid Investigations here.
Based on our years experience with power users of the Liquid Investigations technology, and it’s discovery and investigation workflows, the following approaches have been favored:
Modifying existing Free Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) collaborative components, and leveraging the advantages of these existing technologies, while ensuring they are adapted to address the challenges posed by limited resources. This involved streamlining features, optimizing their performance, prioritization of essential functionalities, to maximize efficiency within given constraints.
Developing in-house missing FLOSS search and discovery components as an approach to enhance the functionalities of existing collaborative solutions. This provides an opportunity to optimize performance and security and offer the journalists customized solutions for their search needs and data sensitivity.
Integrating these FLOSS components and in-house search capabilities into a self-hosted secure one-stop-shop solution, enables seamless investigative collaborations. This self-hosted solution provides control over the infrastructure, data privacy, customizable access controls, providing investigative groups with a streamlined workflow and ensuring the confidentiality of their work.
